Unsure about something? Hopefully this page will have your answer. If not, please email me and ask away.

Why do it?
Please read the "About" page and find out

How many miles will you be cycling?
I can't give you an exact amount but I know it's around 500. That’s 500 miles cycling up and down mountains, villages, dirt tracks and jungles.

How long will you be gone?
The actual challenge lasts 10 days but I hope to be able to have 2 or 3 days either side. Before the challenge to acclimatise and after the challenge to sleep and recover.

Why Vietnam?
Why not :) it's a beautiful country, it's a challenge of a life time, I've always wanted to go there, I like travelling and seeing different cultures, people etc...!

Can I sponsor you via cheque/cash?
Yes, please email me and I can send you the details.

Wat Tyler, as in 1381 Leader of the Peasants Revolt?
Quite possibly yes. My Grandad always told me how he was related to the leader of the 1381 Peasants Revolt. Not sure if it's true or not but I'll always believe him :)

Who are Across the Divide?
ATD are a specialist organization that offers anyone the opportunity to compete in "challenge of a life-time" events raising money for charity.

Who covers the cost of the challenge?
I have personally contributed approx £600 so far. This includes the domain name, registration for the challenge, insurance/support in Vietnam and personal sponsors to myself. The actual cost of the challenge is £1250. I have selected Cancer Research UK to cover the remaining costs and have included this in my fundraising target of £2500.

I have decided that St Anne's Hospice will be not contributing ANY funds towards the cost of the challenge as I have elected them to have 100% of the funds raised in their name.

Why haven't you set a target for St Anne's?
Because there isn't a need for a target I just want to raise as much as possible.

How does the money help the charities?
Again, the "About" page should tell you everything you need to know. Cancer Research UK is the world's leading charity dedicated to research on the causes, treatment and prevention of cancer and rely heavily on public funding. St.Anne's hospice offers the provision of a dedicated in-patient facility for patients who required hospice care and was where my Grandad spent the last few months of his life. Again, they rely on public donations for the majority of their funding.

How can I be sure your going to do it?
Believe me, I will. Training started late summer 05 and I'm determined to cover the distance. Besides which, I made a promise to my Grandad, I'm doing it for him and nothings going to stop me!!

When does the money have to be in by?
End of August to be sure everything is in place prior to getting on the plane in November.

How can companies help?
Well a money donation is my primary request although I realise alot of companies can't just hand out money. So... you can donate items that I can use during training or the event (i.e. cycling equipment/clothing/accessories), or items that I can auction off with the proceeds going to the charities. You will get a logo link on the "Company" page of this site letting people know you have contributed.

How fit are you now?
As of today (9/03/06) not very to be honest, but I'm working on it. I'm up to 30 miles averaging 10mph and I'll be increasing that by at least 10 miles a month. By the time the challenge comes I should be up to 110 miles a day with ease (I think we do 100+ miles on one of the days) so I intend to be "more than fit enough".

How heavy are you?
As of today (9/03/06) 13.4 stone, I've lost over 1/2 stone in the last 2 weeks though.

Why Justgiving?
It's 100% secure, well known, won numerous awards, automatically claim 28p per £ in tax aid, quick and easy, and the money donated goes straight to the charity.

Have you ever fallen off your bike?
LOL yes, plenty of times, but more so since getting SPUDs (clip on shoes).

Do you have any injuries that could prevent you completing the challenge?
I've had three knee operations (on my right knee), two of them being complete ACL reconstructions. Other than that and the occassional bout of "man flu" I'm fortunate enough not to have any medical issues.
